HAWAII ESTATE PLANNING – WILLS & TRUSTS

In Hawaii, when an estate is valued at $100,000 or more, Probate is triggered. That means that anyone who owns or is buying a home or pretty much any real estate in Hawaii, probate will be triggered.

But even if there is no real estate, other assets, including bank accounts, CDs, 401(k)s, automobiles, jewelry, furniture, electronics, etc can quickly and easily add up to the $100,000 probate threshold.

This is the case even if you have a will. Wills can be contested, Trusts cannot.
Probate generally takes a minimum of six months to complete, and can take up to two years or more. They also will consume between 3% and 7% of the value of the assets.

Most people want to avoid probate for those reasons. The solution is to create a living, revokable trust, and include a Pass Through Will in the Estate Plan.

Here at SC Finance Strategies & Insurance Consultants, we work with a team of Estate Plan specialists who are experts in creating customized Estate Plans including a Living, Revokable Trust with all the legal documents to ensure that YOUR wishes are carried out when it comes to how your estate assets will be handled and distributed when you pass away.

Your Hawaii Estate Plan will include a Pass Through Will incase anything of value is left out of the Trust. This way probate will not be triggered, and your beneficiaries will have nothing to dispute or fight over, because everything is laid out in your Trust instructions. And they won’t have to wait 6 months or more, and your estate won’t have to give up 3% to 7% of its value to the State.
Your Hawaii Estate Plan will also include a Finance Power of Attorney and Health Care Power of Attorney documents assigning those positions to the ones YOU choose, including successors.

Your Living Revocable Trust will include unlimited amendments or changes as you deem necessary – at NO additional cost.

This kind of Estate Plan costs several thousands of dollars when you hire a law firm to set it up for you. And any changes require additional fees.

My father in law hired a local law firm to set up his trust about 15 years ago. The initial fee he paid was $12,000. He has made a few amendments to the trust since then, and each time he makes a change to it, it costs him another $2000.

When you work with SC Finance Strategies & Insurance Consultants to create your Hawaii Estate Plan, your cost will only be about as much as one amendment would cost you if you hire a law firm for the same service.

Call or email us to set up a no cost, no obligation consultation.
